Swainsboro Police Department Reports

Reports from Swainsboro Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Randy Ellison, are as follows:

Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 49 mph in a 35 mph school zone. During the stop, it was discovered the driver’s license was suspended. The driver was arrested.

Officers imitated a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired registration. The vehicle did not have active insurance as well. The vehicle was towed and the driver was apprehended.

Officer took a report concerning fraudulent charges on an AT&T bill for accessories that the customer never purchased.

Officers served an arrest warrant. The offender was arrested without incident.

Officers met a complaint at her place of employment. Another employee’s husband has been calling the store several times a day when his wife is working and coming to the store and “causing drama”. Officers advised the complainant that they would have to catch him at the store to serve him with criminal trespass papers.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with a nonfunctioning headlight. The driver’s license was suspended, and the vehicle did not have active insurance. The vehicle was towed and the driver was arrested.

Officers were dispatched to a 911 hangup call. Upon arrival, officers met with the caller who stated it was an accident. Officers noticed a male in the residence that had been criminally trespassed from Housing Authority property. After several discussions and discovered that both parties were highly intoxicated, the male left the premises.

Officers took a report concerning a firearm being discharged in the city limits. No injuries were reported.

Officers took a report concerning a stolen bicycle. The complainant’s six year old grandson was riding the bicycle by the roadway when an offender, known by the complainant, stopped the boy and told him that he “didn’t look right on that bicycle”. The offender then took the bike and left. The complainant later spoke with the offender, and he said he took the bike to the police station, but that was not the case. Officers advised that they would speak to the offender and find the bicycle.

Officers took a report concerning a prior domestic dispute between two males that were both in a relationship with the same female. The complainant was advised to call 911 if the other party returned to his place of employment or residence again.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a tag light violation. Officers could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and noticed a beer can in the cup holder. It was discovered that the vehicle did not have active registration or insurance. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was towed.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with nonfunctioning taillights. The diver’s license was suspended. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with a nonfunctioning headlight and a nonfunctioning taillight. Officers could detect the odor of marijuana. The driver gave consent for officers to search the vehicle, and then admitted to having a small bag of marijuana. The driver and the passenger gave several different stories about where they got the marijuana from. Both parties were arrested.

Officer took a report concerning a missing firearm.

Officers took a report concerning a tractor trailer truck taking out a mailbox. After speaking with the owner of the residence and viewing a video of the incident, officers made contact with a neighbor. The tractor trailer also hit the neighbor’s mailbox, and it was missing. The neighbor stated that he wanted the mailbox back, as it had mail in it. Officers were unable to locate the mailbox in the area.

Officers took a report concerning a stolen bicycle.

Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle that had a nonfunctioning brake light. The driver did not stop, and continued driving until he got to his residence. Officers detained the driver, and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver’s mother exited the home and began screaming at officers. Officers located a small bag containing traces of marijuana in the vehicle. The offender was arrested for the headlight violation and eluding. The driver was not charged with possession of marijuana as the amount was so small.

Officers took a report concerning a stolen cellphone.
