President Floyd speaks to Wiregrass Chapter

The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting at McKinney Pond Restaurant in Midville Sunday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. With President Steve Burke presiding, they had 16 in attendance including guests. President Steve opened the meeting with a welcome and asked 1st Vice President Alton Reynolds to open with a prayer, then led the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. They then enjoyed a great buffet meal of shrimp, corn dodgers, French fries and all the trimmings. President Steve then called on Dess Smith to introduce the speaker, President Bill Floyd, Georgia Society President. Bill spoke on the 2nd Continental Congress. President Steve then called on Compatriot Alton Reynolds for a special awards presentation. Alton presented Gary Mason and Jerry Lawson with a plaque that read, “THUMPER”, to the fine cannon crew of the Continental Reynolds Battery, part of the Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Artillery. SAR member Cam Quick was to receive a plaque but was not in attendance. President Steve then asked 1st VP Alton to say the benediction and led the SAR Recessional.
