The Fall Line Region Continentals, GASSAR, consisting of SAR members from the Wiregrass, Brier Creek, Little River Chapters and the Henry Laurens Chapter, South Carolina Society with President Ted Walker traveled to Swainsboro on Saturday, May 3, to march in the 78th Annual Pine Tree Festival. At 8 a.m., Alton McCloud’s 6-pounder Naval Cannon started the annual Knotty Pine 5K Race with Police Chief Ashley Riner firing it, and then at 10:30 a.m., Alton fired his cannon to start the parade. The SAR members marched on a beautiful day and were able to fire their flintlocks nine times each, every 50 yards. After the parade, Steve Burke set up his “Traveling Trunk” with the vendors for the sixth straight year. Steve had four 8-foot tables with relics from the 1700’s and skins from roadkill that showed what the frontiersman went through to survive in those days. He had help from Dess Smith III and they talked with at least 500 spectators and around 4,000 thousand viewed his display.
