As tradition has it, Seedling Garden Club ends its year with a picnic. This year the picnic was held on Monday, May 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Nancy Lisenby. Serving as hostesses along with Nancy was, Yonna Bailey and Ann Peebles.

President Nancy Lisenby welcomed the 18 members and one visitor present. After the blessing of the food, members enjoyed the variety of salads and delicious deserts prepared by members. While enjoying the meal, members enjoyed reminiscencing of the great fun, interesting and educational programs and projects we had during the year.

A short business session was held. Yonna Bailey, Yard of the Month chairman, reported the May Yard of the Month was given to the home of Jeanie Hooks, Donald Hooks and Stanley Smith. A committee will be appointed to check on the location at Harmon Park for the Liberty Tree to be planted. The club was extended an invitation to attend the “Fantasy of Tablescapes” hosted by Magnolia Garden Club of Fort Valley at Massee Lane Gardens. Members were reminded of District workshops coming up.

The exciting part of the meeting began after brief business session. Diana Malone, Garden Club of Georgia Awards chairman, presented the club awards that were won at State Convention. The club won first place and Pink Rosette for Flower Show Staged in Public Building, first place and Pink Rosette for Flower Show Schedule Award and second Place for Individual Club Standard Flower Show Award. The flower show was held in April 2024 at the Fulford Center located at East Georgia College. Kay Peacock served as show chairman with Martha Cobb writing flower show schedule. Needless to say, the Club was very happy to win these awards. President Lisenby presented perfect attendance awards to those with perfect attendance for the year: Yonna Bailey, Martha Cobb, Wanda Ellis, Cheryl Goodman, Nancy Lisenby, Kay Peacock and Ann Peebles, and they were given gift cards.

Before installation of new officers for 2025-2027, outgoing president Nancy Lisenby was reorganized and thanked for her leadership and dedication for the past two years. She has made a great president and went out of her way many times to get programs and work on projects. The club owes her a big thank you. For her dedication and hard work on behalf of the club, Vice President Lucille Braswell, presented her with a Garden Club of Georgia Life Membership.

The meeting ended with the installation of new officers for 2025-2027: President Kay Peacock, 1st vice-president Lucille Braswell, 2nd vice-president Paula Karrh, Treasurer Wanda Ellis and Secretary Cheryl Goodman. We were honored to be installed by the new Oleander District Director Martha Cobb.

The meeting adjourned with the quote, “One day you will look back and see that all along, you were blooming. All along, Jesus was stirring something in your heart that would grow like a garden all around you when you were least expecting it.”

Even though the club does not meet during the summer, we still stay busy with projects.

The Seedling Garden Club is a member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and Oleander District.
