Sergeant James Tyler Tuttle, age 28, originally from Swainsboro, and most recently Crestview, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, at 3 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.

Taken far too soon, Tyler was a proud active-duty soldier serving with honor in the United States Army as a member of the Special Forces. Known for his infectious smile, sharp wit, and compassionate heart, Tyler made a lasting impact on everyone he met. He was intelligent, driven, and passionate about everything he did—whether it was serving his country, spending time with his military brothers and sisters, or enjoying a long ride on his motorcycle. Tyler was also a gifted songwriter and a surprisingly good cook who took pride in preparing meals for those he loved. Above all, Tyler valued time with his family. Whether it was a quiet evening at home or a big gathering, he showed up with love, laughter, and a spirit that brought people together. When Tyler hugged you, you could feel the love and no one else’s could quite compare.

Sgt. Tuttle is survived by his mother, Susan Edenfield (Michael Nease) of Metter; son, Michael Patrick Graham; sister, Laura Woodcock (Ridge) of Perry; brother, Gary Purvis (Julianna); aunts, Linda Coleman (Kenny) and Brenda Edenfield-Bell (Michael); uncle, Bo Edenfield (Amanda); favorite cousin, Lisa “Boo Boo” Sikes; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and his extended military family.

To know Tyler was to love him. He was the best son, brother, father, nephew, and friend anyone could ask for. His sudden passing has left a hole in our hearts that will never be fille, and he will be deeply, deeply missed.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of the arrangements.
