Swainsboro High School’s underclassmen honors day was Tuesday, May 15. Special awards and highest average awards were presented to students for their achievements this school year. Students who earned Honor Roll and Star Honor Roll status for the year were also recognized.
East Georgia State College awarded certificates to students in the LEAD the Way program which is designed to recognize high school 10th and 11th graders for their Leadership, Engagement, Achievement and Dedication. This is also designed to award students in the top 15% of the class with at least a 3.0 GPA. Pineland Telephone Representative Emily Thompson recognized Rileigh Andrews as one of the two students participating in their annual Washington Youth Tour.
Superintendent Dr. Denise Warnock issued certificates for those students who served on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council this school year. These students demonstrated exceptional civic engagement and a strong commitment to student advocacy and provided valuable input on school and district-level decisions. The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing. This prestigious competition is open to any student currently enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K -12. Unlike many other writing competitions, no prompt is given. The 10th Grade winner for SHS is Dahlia Nelson. The 9th Grade winner for SHS is Maranda Jones. Winners for each grade level at SHS were recognized: Maranda Jones (9th Grade), Dahlia Nelson (10th Grade), and Kali Screws (11th Grade).
The Governor’s Honors Program is a summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. It is designed to provide students with the academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The following students were nominated by SHS and served as the nominee for all of Emanuel County: Alexus Mercer for Language Arts, Yasmin Rios for Science, Ricky Chen for Math and Kylee Farley for Social Studies.
