The Swainsboro Tigers have been road warriors for two weeks in a row, most recently going to Lamar County and beating them 18-6.

This was a good ol’ fashioned slobberknocker as the Tigers defense, as it has all year, stepped up once again. In two rounds, they’ve only allowed six points, which is unbelievable. The Tigers held a 16-0 lead through three quarters, allowed a touchdown in the fourth as well as picking up a safety to win the game 18-6.

The offense wasn’t great, but they were good enough. Only rushing for 191 yards as a team, their lowest total of the season, Bryson Tarver led the backs with 55 yards, while having the most attempts with 13. Tarver also had a touchdown. Kason Edenfield stepped up in the passing game throwing for 61 yards on two completions, one of those being a 39-yard touchdown to Lamarqus Webb. This was a hard-fought win for the Tigers, and it shows how hard they work to get to this point.

“I thought our guys played disciplined, hard-nosed, playoff football against Lamar County,” said Head Coach Scott Roberts. He went on to say, “We created turnovers on defense and special teams and those are magnified in the playoffs. Offensively, we had guys step up and make plays throwing, catching, and running the ball at critical moments. This time of year, we’re not looking for style points. We just want to be the best team in the stadium on Friday night. That’s all we can control. We’ve done that two Friday nights in a row, and the number of teams with a chance has gone from 32 to 8. All we care about right now is being the best football team in the Granite Bowl on Friday night.”

They will try to be the better team against Elbert County, a team that pulled off the upset last week over Trion to get here. Elbert shares the same record as Swainsboro at 10-2. This will be one of the games of the week as Swainsboro tries to get back to where they were last year. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24.
