The Lady Tigers of Swainsboro girls’ basketball have been one of the most dominant teams in A-DI all year. They currently hold a 10-4 overall record and a 4-1 in region record, good enough for first in the region. Last week they took on East Laurens and Jefferson County. The first game against East Laurens was the biggest of the two as they lost a game to them earlier in the season, and this was huge for determining who is the one seed in the Region tournament. The Lady Tigers dominated the first half going up by a score of 24-13. They needed to play good enough in the second half to get out of there with a win. That they did, roaring to a 62-43 victory of the Falcons. They were led by Tanyia Williams, who had 14 points and 15 rebounds, the wildest part of this stat line is that she is doing this on an “every game” basis, averaging 15 points and 13 rebounds. Following Williams was De’Zaria Jordan who also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Next up was an 0-14 Jefferson County team, and it was apparent that they didn’t want to leave any doubt winning the game 93-14. Yes, you read that right, a 79-point win. An incredible performance. They were led by none other than Tanyia Williams who had 20 points and 19 rebounds, to add onto that she also totaled three assists and three steals. There were three other Tigers in double digits scoring figures, Hannah Howard (14), Jayden Wynn (13), and De’Zaria Jordan (11). One of the most impressive stat lines was Jayden Wynn getting SIX steals. That’s a crazy amount for one game. This Lady Tigers team is clicking on all cylinders. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they take on Bleckley County, Jenkins and Statesboro this week. The first is away on Jan. 23. The second two are at home on Jan. 26-27. Come out and support these girls who are dominating the court.
