The Swainsboro Tigers baseball squad got off to a spectacular start to their region baseball slate, sweeping all three games against the Jefferson County Warriors. The 9-3 Tigers will match up with East Laurens this week. Game one on Tuesday on the road and then a double header back in Swainsboro on March 22.

Game one against Jefferson County was a nail-biter with Swainsboro winning in their final at bat. Brice Marchman pitched for the Tigers and was superb. Marchman completed five innings, striking out 11 and allowing only one run on five hits. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Swainsboro loaded the bases and scored the winning run on an infield chopper. Brandon Chapman collected the win in relief. Marchman and Chapman each picked up two hits for the victorious Tigers.

Games two and three were much less stressful for Swainsboro as the Tigers opened up their offense. Peyton Mason pitched game two for the Tigers, going four and 1/3 innings and allowing three runs. However, it was the offense that led the way and Swainsboro cruised to a 16-3 route. Chapman went 3-4 on the game and Mason drove in three runs. Swainsboro capitalized on seven walks and some shoddy fielding by the Warriors in the easy win.

Game three was more of the same as Swainsboro won 11-3. Lenox Lively pitched, striking out 11 and only allowing one hit. Gabe Conley slammed a three-run homer in the second inning and Mason doubled in two runs in the third to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead. DJ Stanford led the way with three of Swainsboro’s 11 hits on the day.

The Tigers will look to continue their hot streak against the East Laurens Falcons this week.
