The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Emanuel County Library Monday morning, February 9, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 40 in attendance. The “RED BOX” furnished McDonald’s sausage biscuits and Shari Watt furnished scrambled eggs, donuts, orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. Chair Johnny talked about the purchase of an 8′ X 12′ U. S Flag to be raised in the Veterans and First Responders Memorial Park in the near future. The city just erected their new 40′ Flagpole that took the place of the old one because of Hurricane Helen’s damage. They also have two 3′ X 5′ 250th Flags that will be posted at the entrance to the park at the same time. LaPortia Mosley traveled to Swainsboro for the meeting to meet and interview a veteran. Mosley will meet with a Veteran each Monday morning to conduct an interview. Chair Johnny also talked about the upcoming 3rd annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament to be held May 16, and they will be looking for hole sponsors for this year’s tournament.
