The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, January 6, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 41 in attendance. The UDC provided breakfast to include breakfast casserole, grits, assorted cut up fruits and assorted muffins and Shari Watt provided orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. UDC member Betsy Johnson opened up the meeting after the blessing by Emory Fennell with her rendition of “Its a Grand Old Flag”. Chair Johnny discussed the picking up of the Wreaths from Veterans graves this Saturday, January 11, at 10 a.m. as well as the loss of several veterans that have passed away this past month; John Olin Alexander, Virgil Wells and our very own Retired Swainsboro Fire Chief Michael Strobridge. Tapley also commented about the many things that the organization accomplished last year and the upcoming “Veterans Cup Golf Tournament” to be held on May 17. Veteran Terry Reynolds then talked about the activities that have taken place with the Wounded Warriors this past month and his plans to provide breakfast for them at Mont Royal Clubhouse on Monday, January 20. Veteran Emory Fennell closed with a prayer.
