Mrs. Thelma Dixon Sweat, age 79, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Fairview Park Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at the Wrightsville Church of the Nazarene. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Robinson officiating. The family received friends Friday, February 23, from 6: to 8 p.m. at Wrightsville Church of the Nazarene.

Pallbearers were Cliff Dixon, Andy Dixon, Dwain Sweat, Donnie Sweat, Wain Sweat and Bruce Deal. Honorary pallbearers were the Wrightsville Church of the Nazarene Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Sweat was born December 1, 1944, in Wrightsville, to the late Piercie Dixon and Earline Davis Dixon Douglas. She was married to the late Herman “Humbug” Sweat for 55 years. They lived in Swainsboro for 24 years before moving back to Wrightsville. Mrs. Sweat retired from the Department of Corrections in Food Service. Mrs. Sweat is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Arthur Dixon, Lanier Dixon, Earl Dixon, Annie Blount, Hilda Bray and Jane Mason.

Mrs. Sweat is survived by her sons, Todd Sweat (Margaret) and Brad Sweat of Wrightsville; brother, Russell Dixon (Shirley) of Wrightsville; sister, Linda Douglas of Wrightsville; grandson, Tyler Sweat of Wrightsville; several nieces and nephews; and a very special caregiver, Angela Stanley.

Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
