The Swainsboro High School Tigers closed out their 2024 football season with a hard-fought game against the Northeast Macon Raiders in the first round of the GHSA Class A Division 1 state playoffs. Though the Tigers fell 46-7, the night was a showcase of resilience, grit, and glimpses of what the future holds for a young and determined team. Freshmen and sophomores stepped up on the big stage, gaining experience that will undoubtedly pay off in the seasons ahead.

While the scoreboard didn’t reflect their effort, the Tigers never stopped competing. Late in the fourth quarter, freshman running back Javari Williams broke through for Swainsboro’s lone score, capping off a performance that highlighted his potential and the team’s fighting spirit. Moments like these are a reminder that growth often comes through challenges.

Reflecting on the season, head coach Scott Roberts praised the strides made by his younger players. “Our young kids got a lot of time on the field this year, and that experience is going to help them improve,” Roberts said. “You could see them getting better every week.”

Coach Roberts also expressed deep gratitude for his senior leaders, whose commitment and dedication have been cornerstones of the program. “Shane Gamiza, Brian Gregory, Wendell McLeod, Xavier Strobridge, Bryson Tarver, Sammy ‘Trey’ Turner, and Jyleris Williams have given so much to this program,” Roberts said. “It’s not easy to play this game, and they’ve shown true heart and dedication. We’ll miss them, but their contributions won’t be forgotten.”

As the Tigers look ahead to the 2025 season, preparation has already begun. The team knows that hard work in the weight room and attention to detail will be key to returning stronger. “We’re already working on next season,” Roberts said. “Every day in the weight room counts. We have to do the little things right if we want to get back to where we want to be.”

While the 2024 campaign didn’t end the way the Tigers hoped, it has laid a foundation for growth and success. With a mix of youthful talent and a strong commitment to improvement, Swainsboro fans can look forward to an exciting future for their football program. The Tigers are determined to come back stronger, and their journey continues with renewed focus and determination.
