The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, July 28, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, there were 44 in attendance. Shari Watt provided breakfast of fresh homemade pancakes with butter and syrup, sausage and fruit, orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. Veteran Terry Reynolds presented his program on the Wounded Warriors. Terry has been the President and director of the local Wounded Warriors project for 15 years. The Wounded Warriors Retreat, Inc. has purchased 58.9 acres in Emanuel County that has a 12-acre pond for fishing, and they lease or have use of approximately 1,200 acres in Emanuel County along with 200 acres in Jenkins County and 900 acres in Burke County that warriors can use for hunting and fishing. They plan on having a rifle range and skeet shooting facility on the Emanuel County tract, but there is one more thing they need in order to successfully meet the many needs of wounded warriors…a lodge. The Wounded Warriors has saved over the past 15 years to get started, but not enough to complete the lodge. They need help in donations. All donations are tax deductible, and it is a very worthwhile project that you can be a part of. You can give online at woundedwarriorsretreat.net or you can mail your donation to: Wounded Warrior Retreat, Inc., P.O. Box 782, Swainsboro, GA 30401.

The newest veteran to attend the Veterans at the Library Monday morning breakfast is Serena Singer. She served in the 123rd MSB, 1st AD, WRAIR at Fort Meade, MD. Singer served from August 1993 to August 1999 in the U.S. Army and from April 2006 to October 2008 in the U.S. Army Reserve. She served in Operation Joint Endeavor and in Bosnia, and was also stationed in Dexheim, Germany and Washington D.C. Singer’s highest rank was SGT.
