Veterans meet at the Library

The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday, May 6, 2024, at 9:15 a.m. With Chair John Tapley presiding, they had 40 in attendance. Breakfast was served by Joyce Fennell and Betsy Johnson of the UDC, consisting of breakfast casserole, grits, muffins, fruit, cake, cranberry juice, grape juice, orange juice and coffee. Chair Johnny talked about the upcoming Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park clean-up day on Saturday morning, May 11, and the 1st Annual Veterans Cup Golf Tournament set for Saturday, May 18 starting at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast at the Swainsboro Country Club, and then the tee time at all 18 holes will be started at 8 a.m. by a six-pounder Field Gun cannon shot by Commander Steve Burke, President of the Wiregrass Chapter Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution. Chair John then talked about the Veterans appreciation day on Memorial Day, May 27, starting with a breakfast at the Emanuel County Medical Center at 9 a.m. and then a ceremony at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park at 11 a.m. The next Monday morning meeting and breakfast will be May 13, on the Emanuel County Fountain Square at 9 a.m. with breakfast being provided by the “Cakery on the Square”, consisting of coffee and sausage biscuits. Be sure and take your own chair to sit around the square and listen to the special music that will be provided.
