The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, August 19, at the Rustic Grille at 6:30 p.m. With President Paul Cerpovicz presiding, they had 12 in attendance. Tim Goodman won the chocolate/strawberry cheesecake and Dess Smith won the Domino’s pizza. Tuesday was National Potato Day and President Paul gave away a bag of Idaho potatoes won by Dwight Watt. Two jars of red pepper jelly provided by Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz were won by Tim Goodman and David Gribbin. Dwight Watt gave a program on the recent Kiwanis International Convention in Pittsburgh that he attended with two members from the Ft. Oglethorpe Kiwanis Club. Dwight belongs to both the Fort Oglethorpe and Swainsboro Kiwanis Clubs. As a former Governor of the Kentucky/Tennessee District, he has attended a number of International Conventions in the continental US. Dwight usually drives his 24-year-old, 1,000,000+ miles car, but this time they took a less experienced car. Terry Bradshaw was the keynote speaker for the Convention where Michael Mulhand of New Jersey was elected Kiwanis International President and Hope Markes of Jamaica was elected President-Elect. Dwight had pictures standing on the spot of the Immaculate Reception (Bradshaw to Franco Harris), the home plate of the 1903 World Series won by the Red Sox over the Pirates, and in front of a statue of Mr. Rogers. Dwight ended his program by asking how many states were in the KY/TN District. Bobbie Daughtry, with a guess of three, won a yellow campaign t-shirt for Chuck Fletcher of the KY/TN District. KY/TN actually has 4 states, but Bobbie was closest to the correct answer in the shortest time. President Paul talked about the status of the Little Free Library (LFL) project, the locations of the current LFL’s and the proposed location of the two remaining LFL’s. Kiwanis are still working with the locations at Summertown and the Herrington/Calhoun intersection. President Paul and Kiwanians Tim and Cheryl Goodman attended the Georgia District Convention in Dalton on August 8-10. President Paul reported the tri-board received much praise and the silent auction basket brought at least $95, part of the $4,000 raised at the Convention for Georgia Key Club’s project to support Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes and Georgia Circle K.
