The Swainsboro Rotary club met Monday, August 4, for the weekly meeting at the Rustic Grill. The meeting was called to order by Zack Proctor in the absence of President Lynn Brinson. New business discussed was the date for the upcoming Wounded Warrier banquet that Rotary assists with to be held October 16. There will be more information on this in the upcoming weeks. Harley Smith introduced the speaker for the meeting, Jessi Williamson. Jessi is over Students affairs for GSU and is instrumental in the transitioning of East Georgia State College to become a part of Georgia Southern University. They gave an update on the process and the timeline for this transaction. This will expand the educational opportunities for the students and also enhance the support services for this institution. The goals of the consolidation is the offer more degree pathways and more financial and career support to the student body. After this presentation, the meeting was adjourned.
