The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, November 11, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 52 in attendance. DAR, Joyce Fennell and Shari Watt provided sausage, grits, freshly cut up fruit, and pastries, orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. After the prayer by Veteran Emory Fennell, Shari Watt introduced three people from WJBF who were attending the veterans meeting to present Veteran John Tapley with the “WJBF Salute to Service” award for the month of November 2024. They interviewed Johnny and will run the Salute on November 20, at 5 p.m. on WJBF. If you miss it, it will be online at the WJBF site. They also had a new veteran to attend the Veterans at the Library meeting for the first time, William Gilbert Vicain. William served in the U.S. Army from November 1974 to February 2001. He was part of the 1st Battalion, 61st Air Defense Artillery. Vicain served in Germany, Fort Carson, Colorada, Fort Ord, California and Fort Bliss, Texas. His highest rank was Command Sgt. Major. Also, Veteran Terry Reynolds is in charge of the upcoming 13th Annual Sportsman’s Banquet and Auction that will be held at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy. 80 East, Twin City, GA 30471, Thursday night, November 21, at 5 p.m. Advance tickets are required and can be obtained by contacting Terry Reynolds at 478-494-3758, Richard Driggers at 912-290-1108, Nick Kraus at 912-687-6781 or Kurt Anderson at 678-614-0593. This event will include social time, prime rib meal, with silent and live auction items. All the proceeds go directly to our local Wounded Warriors group which is a Georgia Non-profit 501 C3 organization that gives opportunity to Wounded Veterans and their family to enjoy the great outdoors.
