The Swainsboro Rotary Club met at the Rustic Grill on Monday, Oct. 6, at 12 p.m., being called to order by President Lynn Brinson. The club discussed the Wounded Warriors banquet that will be held at Beaver Creek Plantation on October 16. There is also a car wash being held on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Swainsboro Fire Department. Proceeds will go toward the Swainsboro High School Athletic Program. Zack Frye introduced the speaker for the meeting, Russ Yeomans with Yeomans Timber and chairman of the Georgia Forestry Association. Yeomans discussed the impact that the mill closings will have on our local area and surrounding counties. With the mills in Savannah closing, timber will need to be hauled to other mills and the demand for timber is not as great at this point, therefore driving down the prices. After a question-and-answer session, the meeting was adjourned.
