The Swainsboro Lady Tigers tipped off their season with a statement win, defeating the Claxton Lady Tigers 50-21 in an energetic scrimmage this past Saturday at The Den. Despite being a young team, the Lady Tigers showed their hunger, grit, and potential for what could be a thrilling season ahead.

Led by Head Coach Alexandria Walden, the Lady Tigers leaned into their physical style of play and relentless defense to dominate both ends of the court. “This game lets us know what we need to work on as a unit, but I know we’ll be okay. This will be a shocking season to many, but for us, it’s hard work and dedication,” Coach Walden said.

The game highlighted the return of Junior K.K. Murphy, who made her presence felt with a double-double performance, tallying 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 steals. “Big shoutout to my comeback kid! She played a strong game and showed she’s back and ready to ball,” Coach Walden added.

Freshmen Treasure Phillips and Kali Brown also gave fans a glimpse of the future, combining for 21 points and contributing key assists, rebounds, and steals throughout the game. “These freshmen put on a show,” said Coach Walden. “This group of girls is young, hungry, and ready to press reset on this season.”

Other contributors included Senior Tonia Ricks, who chipped in 7 points and 4 rebounds, and Junior Jalaya Freeman, who added 3 points. Freshman Kimiya Freeman also made her mark with 2 points.

Coach Walden acknowledged the team’s potential but emphasized the need for growth. “We know and understand we are defense-first. We have to earn everything on the court. Nothing will be given. Right now, we’re still finding our identity, but I can see the pieces coming together. With God on our side, anything is possible.”

The Lady Tigers are back on the road Friday, December 6th, to take on Treutlen at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support this young, relentless team as they continue to build on their early success.
