Irene Marie Chappele Gross, age 98, of Swainsboro, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Emanuel County Nursing Home. Funeral Services were held Saturday, August 29, at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with President Ryan Sconyers officiating. Interment followed in Eastbrook Cemetery and Mausoleum. Family received friends one hour prior to services.

Irene was born June 9, 1928, in Surrey, England, to the late Robert George Chappele and Gladys Mary Carvell Chappele. She lived a life filled with many interesting experiences and meaningful work. At just 16 years old, Irene served as a plane spotter during World War II, doing her part to help watch the skies. She later worked as a floral designer, where she was able to share her creativity and love of flowers with others. Irene also spent several years working at the library, a place where her love of books and helping people could shine. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 52 years, a commitment that was an important part of her life and faith. Mrs. Gross is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Floyd Waldron; brothers, Rob Chappele and Bill Chappele; and sister, Jose Madelyn Chappele Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Wendell Gross; sons, Robert Waldron (Christine) of Myakka, Florida and Michael Waldron (Ina) of Bradenton, Florida; daughter, Betty Yorks of Coco Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
