Mr. Lawton Henry, 86, of Midville, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 11, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverends Shannon Boula, Jamie Archer and Tommy Henry officiating. Interment followed in the Blundale Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers were Corbin Wiggins, Riner Wiggins, Earl Conrad, Jr., Gerald Henry, Tommy Henry and Ty Coleman. Honorary pallbearers are the Men’s Sunday School Class of Blundale Baptist Church and Tommy Lamb.

Mr. Henry was born July 12, 1937, in Swainsboro, to the late Lawrence Henry and Clara Fagler Henry. He retired from Fulghum Industry after 43 years of service and was a member of Blundale Baptist Church. Mr. Henry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lake Henry and Charles Henry; sisters, Adelle Archer and Clara Anderson.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Henry, of Midville; son, Ray (Caryn) Henry; two step-grandchildren, Richard Hassinger of Athens and Amanda Hassinger of Monroe; sisters, Juanita Kersey of Port Wentworth and Joyce Grant of Swainsboro; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
