The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, September 16, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 48 in attendance. The Beta Sigma Phi furnished breakfast consisting of sausage biscuits with jelly and several delicious cookies and Shari Watt provided orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. After the prayer by Veteran Emory Fennell, Chair Johnny introduced the newest veteran, Brandon Ross Wallace, and his wife. Wallace served in the U.S. Army from 1997 to 2017. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Command and was stationed at Fort Riley, Fort Carson, Fort Sam Houston, Fort Benning, Fort Hood and in Germany (Landstuhl). Wallace also was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Chair Johnny then talked about the “Wreaths Across America” event that will take place on December 14. They will be placing the U.S. Flags on veteran’s graves at the Swainsboro City Cemetery on November 30 at 9 a.m. Veterans’ Assistant Shari Watt discussed the veterans attending five different veterans’ day events at five different schools on November 11, and also the possibility of having their own Veterans Day parade in Swainsboro. If you would like to purchase a wreath for your veteran in any cemetery, please call the library and ask for Shari Watt. Also, Veteran Terry Reynolds is in charge of the upcoming 13th Annual Sportsman’s Banquet and Auction that will be held at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy. 80 East in Twin City. It will be held on Thursday night, October 10, 2024, at 5 p.m. This event will include social time, prime rib meal, with silent and live auction items. Advance tickets are required. You can obtain tickets by contacting Terry Reynolds at 478-494-3758, Richard Driggers at 912-290-1108, Nick Kraus at 912-687-6781 or Kurt Anderson at 678-614-0593. All proceeds go directly to the local Wounded Warriors group which is a Georgia Non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that gives opportunity to Wounded Veterans and their family to enjoy the great outdoors. Veteran Willie Bush closed the meeting with a prayer. © Copyright 2024 The Forest-Blade/Emanuel County Live
