Precious Easter Southerland, 94

On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, our dearly loved mother was shepherded by Jesus Christ to her heavenly home following an illness at her home in Swainsboro.

Precious was born March 27, 1932, to the late Rev. and Mrs. M.H. Brown of Lumpkin with a “can do spirit”. She was a mother to four natural children and two stepdaughters, Althea, Bonita, Cassandra, Daphne, Audrey and Juanita. She loved life, people and God. As an educator, she enjoyed a teaching career which spanned many years not only in Emanuel County, but to Aiken, SC, as well. She provided herself in learning and sharing everything she could. She enjoyed the arts and music, piano and singing, crocheting, serving, canning and gardening. She loved a challenge and always asked God to help complete every task.

Mother was a member of Bluff Springs AME Church of Lumpkin as a child. Following college and marriage, she moved to Swainsboro and joined St. Philip Missionary Baptist Church of Swainsboro where she enjoyed and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, Jr. Choir director, BTU instructor, Sr. Choir member, VBS instructor and director of many special programs enjoyed at the church(es). She enjoyed interacting with people, especially children.

Most of all, Mother loved God. She leaves a legacy of love, caring, sharing and obedience, honesty and integrity that I believe we all can achieve. We all are human and can do all things good with God’s help just as she did. Mother is preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Cassandra and Juanita; and husbands, Charles C. Baldwin and Rev. L.T. Southerland.

Mother leaves to mourn her daughters, Althea, Bonita (Gwen), Daphne and Audrey Thomasenia; several grands, great-grands and great-great-grands; many loving friends and relatives. She lives on in our hearts. Now, this is “just Precious”!
