The ECI Lady Dawg softball team’s season didn’t end like they wanted after going 1-2 in the Elite round of the State Playoffs. They lost their first game against GMC in a close one 5-4 on Wednesday, then defeated Telfair Co. 15-2 on Thursday, setting up a game against Wilcox later that afternoon. Wilcox defeated the Lady Dawgs 6-4 to end the season for ECI.

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the game against GMC, breaking through posting 2 runs in the third inning. GMC matched that score in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2. ECI jumped back ahead 4-2 scoring 2 more runs in the fifth inning. GMC once again matched with 2 runs in the sixth to the game once again, 4-4. GMC went ahead for good in the seventh to take the game 5-4. The loss set up a game between Telfair Co. on Thursday morning. The Lady Dawgs easily took care of Telfair 15-2 to set up a match against Wilcox Co. later that afternoon. The Lady Dawgs and Wilcox put runs on the scoreboard in the first inning with the Patriots jumping out to a 3-2 lead. ECI tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the third inning. Wilcox added 3 more in the fourth for a 6-3 lead. The Lady Dawgs posted a run in the fifth inning for a 6-4 Wilcox score. Neither team scored the last 2 innings with the Patriots sending the Lady Dawgs home by a score of 6-4. (Individual stats or line scores not available for the three games.)

After losing 8 seniors off the 2022 state championship team, a lot of people and region teams were writing off the Lady Dawgs as a contender for region or state playoffs before the season started. While they were making predictions, the Lady Dawgs were in training to prove them wrong and prove them wrong they did. They not only won the region championship, again, they also advanced to the Elite 8 round of the state playoffs for the seventh time in 10 years.

The Lady Dawgs will return all but two players next year for another run in the region and state playoffs.

Putting on the batting helmet for the Bulldogs for the last time were seniors Asia Gibbons and Jarei Oglesby.
