Billy Ray “Bill” Hattaway, age 88, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Pike Manor in Zebulon. Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Harris officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Molena. Friends visited the family from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bill was born May 2, 1938, to the late Robert Steve Hattaway and Bonita Bell Hattaway. He grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Brown High School where he served as captain of the football team.

Bill enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country and also played football. Following his honorable discharge, he began a career with Eastern Airlines where he worked for several years before joining Acme Lock & Key as a safe salesman and installer. After retiring from Acme, Bill continued working in sales at Cronic in Griffin. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing. Along with his parents, Mr. Hattaway is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lawing Hattaway; son, Michael Ray Hattaway; and sister, Bobbie June Juhan.

Mr. Hattaway is survived by his daughter, Amy Garmon (Jeff); beloved granddaughter and caregiver, Kacie Edwards (Chase); great-granddaughters, Emrie and Sabelle Edwards; daughter, Paula Richards (Manuel); grandson by Paula, Brad Richards (Rachel); granddaughters by Michael, Morgan Knight (Justin) and Mikaela Brown (Jacob); several other great-grandchildren. his best friend and companion, Shelby Moore; and her children, Jeff, Cliff and Sandy Moore.

Moody-Daniel Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
