One thing that the Swainsboro fast pitch team quickly learned this year is that every softball team in their new region (Region 3, 1A D-1) has solid pitching. Last Tuesday’s game at Ambuc Park in Savannah against St. Vincent’s Academy was a prime example. Starting in the circle for Swainsboro was Chloe Boulineau and starting for St. Vincent’s Academy was Loki Thompson. Both pitchers threw a complete game, and they combined for 23 strikeouts on the evening. On this particular evening, however, Boulineau was just a little bit better than her counterpart and she picked up the win by tossing a one hit shutout and striking out 12 Saints batters on the way to a 4-0 Tiger victory.
Runs were scarce in the game, but Swainsboro took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Izzy Baird scored on an Ariel Tapley sacrifice fly and Jalaya Freeman scored on a passed ball. The only other scoring in the game was in the top of the fourth inning when Gracie Beneteau doubled in two insurance runs for the Lady Tigers. Sara Smith led Swainsboro batters with two hits and a walk in her four trips to the plate.
After a 12-0 loss to Vidalia last Thursday, August 22, Swainsboro traveled to Treutlen County on Monday, August 26, for a non-region match-up. Boulineau was again sharp in the circle. She limited the Lady Vikings to zero runs on just two hits and struck out 14 batters on the way to another 4-0 Tiger victory. Kayla Crabb, Berklie Bishop and Boulineau each had two hits on the evening. Gracie Beneteau, Kyleigh Hostilo, Bishop and Crabb drove in one run each for the SHS Lady Tigers.
Swainsboro currently stands at five wins and five losses on the season and will host Savannah Christian Wednesday, August 28, at 6 p.m.
