Mr. Cecil Van Lewis, age 76, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at is home in Rincon. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, January 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating. Interment will be at Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Garfield.

Mr. Lewis was born on November 1, 1947, in Emanuel County. He attended Emanuel County Institute and for the last two years of high school, attended Carlisle Military College in Bamburg, SC, graduating in 1966. That same year, Van joined the United States Army and served for 11 years. He later served in the Air National Guard and worked at Gulfstream, retiring from both. Van enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling when he was able and camping. Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by and his parents, Cecil and Mildred Lewis; and wife, Janice Mae Lewis.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his son, Cecil Van Lewis Jr.; daughters, Shannon Parker and Jenny Lewis; brothers, Glen (Christine) Lewis, Stephen Lewis and Wyler Lewis; sister, Cecelia (Randy) Tankersley; grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory of Statesboro is in charge of arrangements.
