Chapman signs to play college baseball

Brandon Chapman committed to play baseball for Truett McConnell University (Cleveland, GA) in a signing ceremony held Monday, May 20 at SHS. He’s been playing the game since he was three, coming up through Dixie Youth League, recreation department teams, and travel ball teams for the last 15 years.

Current and former SHS coaches agree that Brandon sets the standard for Tiger baseball. He’s one of the first to the field each day, listens attentively to coaches, hustles to and from where he’s supposed to be, and brings consistent energy every day. Head Coach Billy Marchman says, “The way he prepares is something we as coaches hope becomes contagious throughout the team. And he treats every player with respect as a valued teammate, regardless of role or age.” Assistant Coach Corey Chalker agrees saying, “If he didn’t get the results he wanted in a game, you will find him staying late at the cages after everybody else has gone home. He’s the kind of kid you hope your own kids grow up to be like.”

Brandon played middle infielder and pitcher for SHS, but will play 2nd base and outfield for the TMU Bears. He’s excited to become a part of their baseball program and plans to major in business so he can run his own company when he gets done. Many people at the ceremony spoke about how talented and gifted Brandon is when it comes to baseball. For Brandon, it’s more than that. He shares, “I’m just blessed to be able to keep on playing the game I’ve been playing since I could walk. It is something I love to do and I want to continue doing it as long as I can.”

Joining Brandon for the ceremony were his parents Billy and Brandi Chapman, brother Bryce Chapman, grandparents Gene and Tina Hall and Jean Chapman, extended family members, teammates, teachers, and friends. Also in attendance were current SHS coaches Marchman, Chalker, and Daniel Overstreet, as well as former SHS coaches Hank Aldridge and Ashley Hooks.
