David Emanuel Academy Eagles claim Region Championship in thrilling double header showdown against Thomas Jefferson Academy Jaguars

It was a great night in Stillmore Friday night as the David Emanuel Academy Eagles secured the GIAA Region Championship with their win over the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars. The teams played a double header on Friday to finish out a three-game series. In the first game, the DEA Eagles snatched the lead late in their 3-2 victory over the Jaguars. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when Tucker Free singled, scoring one run. Both teams were strong on the hill. The DEA Eagles pitchers struck out nine, while the TJ Jaguars sat down five. The Eagles got on the board in the first inning after Brody Fleming hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. David Emanuel Academy Varsity Eagles committed an error, which helped Thomas Jefferson Academy Varsity Jaguars tie the game at one in the top of the second. A single by Fleming gave the Eagles the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third. Richard Braddy earned the win for the DEA Eagles. The righty surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking two. Brody Fleming drove the middle of the lineup, leading David Emanuel Academy Varsity Eagles with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Tucker Free, Clayton Hood, Sailor Powell, and Fleming each collected one hit for David Emanuel Academy Varsity Eagles.

In game two, Brody Fleming hit two home runs and drove in five as the Eagles secured the second win of the night over the Jaguars ending 9-3. Clayton Hood struck out 12 batters on the day, while Layton Terwilliger appeared in relief for the Eagles. The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the first. Richard Braddy homered to left field, scoring three runs, to give the Eagles the upper hand, 3-1. Three more Eagle runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 6-1. Clayton Hood drew a walk, scoring one run, and Fleming homered to center field, scoring two runs. Fleming homered to left field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Eagles. Layton Terwilliger appeared in relief for David Emanuel Academy Varsity Eagles.

Friday night was also Senior recognition night for the senior Eagle baseball players, Clayton Hood and Nolan Powell. Escorting Clayton was his parents, Clay and Allison Hood. Nolan was escorted by his parents, Nathan and Lori Powell.
