EAC hosts second Block Party for the Arts

The Emanuel Arts Council held its second Block Party for the Arts on March 28. The 100 block of North Green Street was closed to traffic between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.

Artwork by a combined total of 28 students from Emanuel County Institute, East Georgia State College, and Swainsboro High School were judged by Matt Donaldson, Jonathan Hampton, and Daisy Reeves. Judges were not shown the names of contestants. First place winners received $75 each; second place, $50; and third place, $25.

Art Show winners were: ECI – First place, Samadhi Salgado; second place, Myra Shivers; third place, Haven Davis; SHS – First place, Maggie Palmer; second place, Dahlia Nelson; third place, Ariel Averett; EGSC – First place, Maddie Romley; second and third places, Aisha Colbert.

A Sidewalk Chalk Contest was also held. Judges were Ron Ellison, Lilly Waters, and Syvetta Young. First place went to Maddie Romley, who won $60. Second place went to Jasmine Downing, $40; and third place was a tie with a $20 prize each going to Aisha Colbert and Jen Meadows.

Entertainment was provided by Brock Aldrich and Alan Brasher, vocals and guitars; Branasha Nwakudu, vocals; and Proper Einstein, vocals. Everyone was treated to free pizza and drinks during the events.

Sponsors for the Block Party were Advanced Metal Components, South Auction, Mill Creek Foundation, Citizens Bank, Durden Banking Company, Ellington Insurance, Yeomans & Associates, and Crystal Pool Service.
