Hannah Howard, De’Zaria Jordan, Tanyia Williams, and Jayden Wynn made the commitment to play college basketball for Central Georgia Technical College on Friday, April 19. A special ceremony was held in the auditorium where the girls were joined by their parents, extended family members, teachers, classmates, teammates, coaches, and many Tiger athletic supporters.
These girls have been outstanding players on the court for the last four years. Howard (Region 2A Defensive Player of the Year) played defensive guard, Jordan (Region 2A 1st Team ALL Region) and Williams (back-to-back Region 2A Player of the Year) played power forward and center, and Wynn (Region 2A 1st Team All Region) was a point guard and shooting guard. They have been playing together since they were in middle school, and during their four years at SHS they have been region champions for the last three years and made four state playoff appearances, two of those in the elite eight.
According to Head Coach Alex Walden, these girls were recruited for more than their basketball skills. She says, “They are being given the unique opportunity to play at the next level because they have the skills, the GPA, the work ethic, and the character CGTC is looking for.”
Howard is the daughter of Lashon McCoy and Dave Howard. Jordan’s mother and stepfather, Jamekia Stewart and Eric Hughes, were on hand to support their daughter. Tanyia’s parents are Ronald and Charlotte Williams, and Jayden is the daughter of Nikki Robinson and Marques Wynn.
