Homer Lamar Moxley, Jr., 52

On Feb. 14, 2025, Homer Lamar Moxley, Jr., age 52, died unexpectedly, leaving a hole in his family that will not be able to be filled again. His death has been a shock to everyone who knew and loved him, but his memory will be carried on through the lives of those he loved most. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 20, at 10 a.m. in the Mary Whitaker Townsend Memorial Chapel at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating. Burial followed at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Family received friends from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Pallbearers were Brett Ward, Justin Ward, Joseph White, Gary Hodges, W.C. Grimes, Blake Johnson, Ken DeLay, Jimmy Lassiter, and Miles Patterson. Homer’s Farm Families will serve as honorary escorts.

Homer Jr. was born February 21, 1973, in Savannah, on his father’s 41st birthday. He was a surprise blessing at that time who was unmistakably the favored baby of the family. Growing up in Twin City, Homer was very close with his parents, Homer Sr. and Retha, who instilled in him a priority for the family that stayed with him into his adult life. He was always devoted to family, whether that was his wife and daughter at home or his parents and sisters back in Twin City. After Homer Sr. died, Homer started working with his mother and was a licensed insurance agent for many years at Retha C. Moxley Crop Insurance. In addition to being a licensed insurance agent, he had degrees from Swainsboro Technical College (Southeastern Technical College), East Georgia College and Georgia Southern University in various computer technology fields. Homer held several certifications and taught computer technology at Heart of Georgia Technical College (Oconee Fall Line Technical College) for many years. He also held a job in information technology at Swainsboro Technical College where he met his wife, Angie.

Homer was incredibly intelligent, but that intelligence was vastly overshadowed by his compassion. He had a caring nature about him that could not be missed when you met him, and anyone who got to know him couldn’t help but love him. Homer would do anything to help someone in need regardless of how well he knew them, but he would move mountains for those he loved. His love came from a bottomless well that never ran dry. Whether it was embarking on a ridiculous project with his father-in-law, Roy, or just hanging out with family on the weekends, Homer just wanted to be surrounded by those he cared about. His joy in those moments was infectious, leaving no one in doubt of just how much he loved them. Homer’s love for his family could only be second to his love for God. His strong Methodist faith assured him that his God was above all, the source of his comfort and his strength.

That strong faith is what gives Homer’s family comfort in this time, knowing that he is reunited with the family that has left this Earth before him. While those left behind do not have all the answers, Homer left an example of faith for all who loved him to follow and find comfort as this loss is confronted. He is now in the presence of his father, Homer Sr., and making the angels nervous with the shenanigans he’s undoubtedly getting into with his father-in-law, Roy. One day we will all be there as well, as long as heaven can withstand whatever those three have in store for it in the meantime.

Homer left behind a large family who will miss him. Mr. Moxley is survived by his mother, Retha C. Moxley of Twin City; wife, Angela Moxley of Dublin; daughter, Megan (Joseph) White of Bonaire; sisters, Lisa (Jimmy) Lassiter of Twin City and Angela (Ken) DeLay of Millen; nephew, Kent (Amy) DeLay; nieces, Ashley King and Katie (Miles) Patterson; great-nephews and nieces, Avery, Ellee, Emmy, Hudson, Wen, Wilder and Wilkes will also miss him dearly.

In the spirit of Homer’s compassionate heart, a scholarship for high school seniors has been established at Durden Banking Company, 111 North Railroad Avenue, Twin City, Georgia 30471.

Memorial contributions may also be made at any Durden Bank location. Homer dedicated so much to help people achieve their dreams, and the family hopes this scholarship will continue that legacy.
