Screven Co. defeated the Lady Dawg softball team earlier this season in a squeaker, 2-1. ECI hosted the Gamecocks last Thursday for a region rematch. Both teams entered the game with one region loss, with Screven holding the tiebreaker with a previous win over the Bulldogs. The Lady Dawgs took the region lead with a 4-2 defeat of the Gamecocks, giving ECI a 10-1 region record. Stats and line score are not available for the Screven Co. game.

Last Monday, September 16, the Lady Dawgs traveled to Baxley to play Appling Co. The Pirates are 14-1 this season and lead their region in class 2A and are ranked in the top five in state rankings. They defeated the Lady Dawgs in a close one, 3-0. The Lady Dawgs ran into a buzz saw in the circle for Appling Co. The Pirate pitcher allowed just three ECI hits, striking out 15 Bulldog batters. Mary Katherine Durden scattered seven hits, striking out five batters and as usual, zero walks. Getting the three hits for the Lady Dawgs were Jayna Kearson, Abbey Marsh and Lola Walden.

The Lady Dawgs have three remaining games left on the schedule. Yesterday, September 24, they played the Panthers in Portal. The other two region games are at home against Jenkins Co. on Thursday, September 26, and against Bryan Co. Tuesday, October 1. The Lady Dawgs close out the regular season on October 8, when they host Pierce Co.
