The ECI softball team had an unusual two game schedule last week and had a weekend off. The Lady Dawgs won both games, defeating Vidalia at home the day after Labor Day 3-1, and picked up a region win in Pembroke over Bryan Co. 11-0 on Thursday. Jayna Kearson hogged all the hits for the Bulldogs in the game against the Indians, belting three doubles. Vidalia jumped on the Bulldogs with a run in the first, and that would be the only run the Indians could manage against ECI. The Lady Dawgs bounced back to take the lead for good in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs after a leadoff double by Kearson. ECI added another run in the third and held on to defeat Vidalia in a non-region game, 3-1. Charlie Mitchell pitched the first four innings for ECI, allowing just three hits. Mary Katherine Durden closed out the game, giving up one hit, striking out six in her three innings of work.
Thursday, they took to the road to face region opponent, Bryan Co. They defeated the Indians in six innings 11-0 to bring their region record to 7-1. The Lady Dawgs scored in every inning except the final sixth. Kearson had another three-hit day along with teammate Kayanna Thompson to lead the ECI offense. Mary Katherine Durden and her Lady Dawg defense played error free ball. The sophomore pitcher had a no hitter entering the sixth inning, but the Indians spoiled the no hitter with a one out double in the final inning.
The Lady Dawgs have two region games on tap this week. Yesterday they were in Claxton to take on the Tigers. Thursday they will be back home with a game against Metter.
