Michael Derrick McKinney, age 63, departed this life Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Carl Vinson Veterans Medical Center in Dublin following an extended illness. A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, August 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Rountree Island Church in Midville with Rev. Richard Lawrence presiding.

Mike was born March 10, 1961, to the late Carrie Webb McKinney. He was a graduate of Swainsboro High School and served seven years in the United States Army. Mike went to work and later retired from Battle Lumber in Wadley. He had many hobbies but his love for fishing was most prevalent. Mr. McKinney is preceded in death by his mother; sisters, Vickie Mosley, Patricia Jones and Mary Sue Kendrick, and brother, Charlie McKinney, Jr.

Mr. McKinney leaves to cherish his loving memories with his daughters, Chiquita Smith of Statesboro, Dominique (Elijah) Akingoroye of Atlanta and Corinthia Smith of Swainsboro; sons, Michael (Lisa) Smith of Swainsboro and Derrick Smith of Summertown; stepson, Travis Smith of Louisville; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Jeanette Sherrod of Summertown and Loretta Brown of Swainsboro; brothers, Carl McKinney and Dewayne McKinney, both of Summertown; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
