The Eighth and final week of the Scavenger Hunt for Books was at one of the more “tasty” businesses – Leannas. Family Connection would like to thank Leannas for closing out the fun literacy project and for their support of Family Connection work in Emanuel County.

The goal was to get kids excited about reading over the summer while offering a fun family engagement opportunity over the eight weeks of summer break. A total of 102 families participated over the summer. Parents and students all expressed how much they enjoyed the hunt and the new books and hoped that it would be offered again next year.

The end-of-hunt party took place on July 27, and children were able to get the books that they may have missed. The celebration included refreshments, and each child received a Scavenger Hunt t-shirt with a map on it of all the locations that the “sleuths” followed the weekly clues to the businesses that had the books.

Family Connection would like to thank the Mill Creek Foundation for funding the books for the entire project. Also, thanks to the eight businesses who were the “secret” locations: Swainsboro Fire Department, Durden Bank, Emanuel County Recreation Department, The Clucking Chicken, The Forest-Blade, East Georgia Healthcare, Daniels Chevrolet and Leannas. Additionally, they would like to thank those businesses that donated to the purchase of the shirts, The Forest-Blade and the Library for promoting the project, and Family Connection people who did all of the work in the background, Ann Rogers and Petite Garrett.

Congratulations to the 10 Scavenger Hunters who solved the clues all eight weeks and received those great books: Gracie Anderson, Haley Brantley, Jack Brantley, Bella Brantley, Olivia Grace Burke, Jones Chalker, Trustin Coleman, Isabelle Copeland, Stormie Dunaway and Dylan Overstreet.
