Southeastern Technical College (STC) has signed an articulation agreement with South Georgia State College (SGSC), creating a seamless pathway for students pursuing careers in elementary and special education.
Through the articulation agreement, signed October 8, 2026, at Southeastern Tech in Vidalia, graduates of Southeastern Tech’s Associate of Science in Education degree program will be able to transfer seamlessly into South Georgia State College’s Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education degree program.
Adding to the significance of the partnership, beginning in fall 2027, South Georgia State College will offer the junior and senior years of the bachelor’s degree program on Southeastern Tech’s Vidalia campus, allowing students to complete all four years of their education locally.
“This partnership provides an incredible opportunity for our students to earn a bachelor’s degree and prepare to become elementary educators without leaving our community. It will also benefit our local school systems, as these future educators will have opportunities to complete internships and gain valuable classroom experience in our local schools,” said STC Interim President Teresa Coleman.
South Georgia State College President Dr. Greg Tanner emphasized the far-reaching impact this opportunity will have on students and their families, the schools, and the communities throughout the region.
“This is another opportunity for our students to make a difference,” Tanner said. “This program has a regional impact.”
Southeastern Tech’s Associate of Science in Education degree provides students with a strong foundation in education through a combination of educational theory and practical application. The program prepares graduates for continued study in education and, through such established articulation agreements, provides a pathway to four-year institutions for a Bachelor of Science in Education without loss of credit.
For individuals who enjoy working with children and want a career that helps shape young lives, a career in early childhood or elementary education offers an opportunity to turn passion into a profession.
Students are accepted into STC’s Associate of Science in Education degree program each semester. Full-time students who begin the program in the fall semester can complete the associate degree within approximately five to six semesters.
