Three finalists named for Chief of Police position

The special called meeting of Mayor and City Council was held on November 14, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Swainsboro City Hall. Members present included Mayor Greg Bennett, Council member Collins, Council member Sconyers, Council member Davis, Council member Quarterman, and Council member Stafford. Following the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, minutes from the regular council meeting of October 7, 2024, October 24, 2024, and November 4, 2024, were presented. The minutes were approved 5-0. Under old business, the council considered the proposed 2025 budget and millage rate. Council member Sconyers made a motion to adopt the 2025 budget and set the millage rate at 11.0000. The motion was seconded by Davis and passed 5-0. The council then considered increasing the pension multiplier. Council member Davis made a motion to approve increasing the multiplier to 1.5, effective December 1, 2024, seconded by Stafford, passing 5-0. Under new business, council considered the new fire department incentive. Council member Sconyers made a motion to approve the fire department incentive program. The motion was seconded by Stafford and passed 5-0. Council considered accepting the FY 2025 Georgia Council for the Arts Community Facilities Grant. Council member Davis made a motion to approve the acceptance of the Arts Community Facilities Grant, seconded by Stafford and passed 5 – 0. In Executive session, Council made a motion to move forward with Adam Kersey, Ashely Riner, and Matthew Williams as the three finalists for the Police Chief position. The vote passed 5–0.
