The Swainsboro Varsity Tigers scored 11 runs in one inning of Friday’s game to catapult them to a 17-2 victory over the War Eagles of Jenkins County. The game started out with Jenkins on the board in the top of the first inning after Blake Aaron walked and Candler Berry was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a double play, and an error. Swainsboro then moved ahead and captured the lead 6-2 in the bottom of the second when Chapman doubled, scoring one run. Lenox Lively grounded out scoring two runs, and Peyton Mason grounded out scoring one run. From that point on, it was a scoring jamboree for the Tigers as the hits just kept on coming. D.J. Stanford homered to left field, scoring two runs. Brandon Chapman singled, scoring one run. Caden Daley was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Stanford was also struck by a pitch driving in a run. An error scored one run and Lenox Lively singled scoring one run. Chapman, Marchman and Benjamin each collected two hits. Chapman, Lively, and Benjamin each drove in two runs. The Tigers were patient at the plate, totaling seven walks for the game. Gabe Conley and Shane Gamiza led the team with two walks each. Daley stole two bases, and the team stole six bases in total.
Stanford earned the win for Swainsboro. He gave up one hit and zero runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six, and walking two. Daley began on the mound for Swainsboro. He allowed one hit and two runs (one earned run) over one-third of an inning, striking out one, and walking two. Jake Bazemore stepped on the hill first for the Eagles. He allowed five hits and nine runs (seven earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking six. Eagles Aaron and Berry were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup as each drove in one run for Jenkins County. Harper Wilcox and Berry each collected one hit for Jenkins County. The War Eagles turned one double play in the game.
