Jessie James Owens, 62

Jessie James Owens, Jr., age 62, of Swainsboro, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2026, at his residence. Funeral Services were held Thursday, September 10, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Butch Taylor officiating, assisted by Reverend Tom Tidwell. Family received friends one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers were Dallas Derriso, David Oglesby, Donald Oglesby and Eddie Wood.

Jessie was born July 2, 1964, in Swainsboro, to Jessie James Owens, Sr. and the late Barbara Jean Tanner Owens. He was a proud 1984 graduate of Swainsboro High School. Jessie was a true hometown man who enjoyed the simple things in life and had a passion for music. He loved being around music and spent time DJing at WJAT Radio Station, where he could share his love of music with others. WJAT has a long history in the Swainsboro community and has been a familiar part of local life for generations.

Jessie was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed cheering on his favorite team. Whether he was listening to music, behind the microphone, or watching the Braves, he had a way of enjoying the things he loved. Jessie will be remembered for the memories he made, his love of music, and the lasting impression he left on those who knew him. Mr. Owens is preceded in death by his mother; and brother, Robert Wayne Owens.

Surviving is his father, Jessie James Owens Sr. of Swainsboro; sister, Wanda Owens of Swainsboro; several cousins; and many friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
