The Skunk Brigade of the Brier Creek Artillery, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution traveled 325 miles to Greensboro, NC to the Sheraton Four Seasons Koury Convention Center to attend the 136th Annual Congress, National Society Sons of the American, July 9 – 16. Those in attendance were Steve Burke and Dess Smith III from the Wiregrass Chapter and Lee Herron from the Brier Creek Chapter. They participated with the National Color Guard at the Memorial Service in the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, the Opening Session of 136th Congress, the President General’s Banquet, and the Retiring of the Colors at the Adjournment of the 136th Congress. Of special interest to the Georgia Society was the Installation of three past Georgia Society Presidents: Allen Greenly, (now from Maryland) was installed as the 121st President General of the National Society, Scott Collins was installed as the Treasurer General of the National Society and Ed Rigel, Jr. was installed as the Vice President General of the International District of the National Society. Besides attending the Sessions of Congress, the Skunk Brigade attended the Color Guard Breakfast, the Memorial Service, the South Atlantic District Breakfast (GA, FL, SC and NC societies), the President General’s Banquet, the Installation of the 2026-2027 Officers and the four Patriot Grave Markings. The total attendance at the 136th Congress was 650.
