The Swainsboro Tigers boys’ basketball team has gotten off to a decent start to region play with a 2-3 record. The Tigers are 6-8 overall, sporting impressive wins over 6A Veterans High School and 15-1 Bible Baptist Christian. The Tigers headed into last weekend with two big region games on their schedule. First up they took on East Laurens, who had already beaten the Tigers by 16 this season, but this one was much closer. The Tigers battled to the end but fell short in a 60-55 defeat. This loss is no slouch as East Laurens has an 11-2 record, including being undefeated in region play. Next up was a battle with Jefferson County. The Tigers really needed to get this one, as they were the better team on paper. Playing on the road is tough, but the Tigers played a great game and pulled out the 62-50 win. This sets the Tigers up to be able to finish second or third in the region. There is a lot of season left to play and plenty of time to finish first. They have a big week coming up as they travel to 14-5 Bleckley County in a region matchup on January 23 and then host Jenkins High School and Statesboro on the 26th and 27th. The Tigers need to play their best ball heading down the stretch!
