Durden Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Troy Leslie Canady, Jr, 80, of Raleigh, North Carolina, who passed away Monday, March 31, 2025. He went on to be with our Lord and Savior while surrounded by his loving family. Graveside service was held Saturday, April 5, at 4 p.m. at Swainsboro City Cemetery.

Troy was born September 25, 1944, to the late Troy Leslie Canady, Sr. and Alma Lee Barrs Canady. His hometown is Swainsboro where he grew up and lived during his childhood. Troy graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1962, then moved away after joining the Air Force on October 12, 1965. He graduated from the Airforce Training School and was assigned to Dobbins Air Force Base in Georgia. Troy served his country faithfully through the Vietnam War and was a decorated member of service. During these years he attended Southern Technical Institute and after an honorable discharge, he attended Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in Atlanta, where he met his future wife Sandra, who was the registrar for the school in 1977. On July 14, 1979, Troy married Sandra, and he became the father of two children, Matt and Tina. In 1981, they had their son, Scott. While in Atlanta, he was a maintenance supervisor working for Dobbs Food Service and Sky Chef. Troy and the family attended and participated in Jonesboro United Methodist Church. Upon moving to Raleigh, NC, he continued to work for Sky Chef and then went to Ravenscroft School where he was the maintenance manager of buildings and grounds. Finding a new church home was a primary need for the family and the church that they felt called to serve was Soapstone United Methodist Church. There, he remained faithful for the rest of his life.

On Mother’s Day of 1951, Troy joined First Methodist Church of Swainsboro where he attended and served faithfully as the Lord called him. While growing up, he and his sisters performed on “Freddie Miller’s Stars of Tomorrow” on Sunday February 24, 1954. The piece they chose to perform was “Taps”. As a boy scout, Troy achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was part of the Order of the Arrow.

Troy had many hobbies that included playing instruments. He played the trumpet, coronet and the piano. Troy loved photography and he took family photos that were added to the family’s collection of tens of 1000s of photos. He enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for his family and friends, and he also enjoyed traveling with family. Troy had a lifelong love for Boy Scouting that was nurtured as a young man. He went through the Wood Badge Training for district leaders in 1994 as part of the Owl Patrol. Then, when he and Sandra moved to Raleigh and joined Soapstone United Methodist Church, Troy began Boy Scout Troop 399. Scott, Justin and Tyler all enjoyed their time in this troop that is still going strong today. Mr. Canady is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Catherine Canady Revis; and brother-in-law, Chris Revis.

Mr. Canady is survived by his wife, Sandra Casey Canady; three children, Matthew R. Robbins (Lisa), Kristina Marie Spencer (Keri Sedita) and Scott Andrew Canady; four grandchildren, Justin Spencer (Ashley), Tyler Spencer, Jakub Canady and Dani Sedita; great-grandson, Will Spencer; sister, Regina Canady Buice; nieces, Shannon Angel (Fernando Angel) and Robin Shoaf (Jason Shoaf); nephew, Ron Buice (Susan Buice); and a large extended family living in the Atlanta area.

The family requests that all donations be made to: Soapstone United Methodist Church, Troop #399, 10301 Old Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, North Carolina, 27613.

Durden Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
