As many Emanuel Countians know, the delivery time of letters and packages in our area has become noticeably longer in recent weeks. A request from The Forest-Blade to officials with the Atlanta Postal service area regarding information on the worsening condition has now been replied to. Ms. Evelina Ramirez with the U.S. Postal Service provided the following statement, “Management is aware of the concerns of some local customers regarding their mail and package delivery and is working quickly to resolve any issues. Operations are improving as we continue to make significant investments in the Atlanta area including new sorting machines, upgraded facilities and more efficient transportation that will ensure our organization can provide reliable delivery service for years to come. We sincerely express our apologies to our customers who may have experienced a deviation from our normal dependable services and appreciate their patience”.

Mail originating in Swainsboro now goes to a distant facility to be sorted and directed. A new facility in Palmetto, Georgia has recently opened and indications are that this change may be affecting delivery times for Swainsboro and surrounding areas. Questions directed to USPS corporate officials concerning this were not responded to. We appreciate the cooperation and efforts of our local Post Office and will continue to provide updates on this situation.
